Mapping risks like never before

Mapping populations at risk is a daunting task in itself; integrating remote sensing data along with local input from crowd-sourcing onto a map is harder. As part of NASA International Space Apps Challenge 2020, our team WeShowedUp decided to embark on this challenging endeavor by choosing to work on the challenge Planet, with People. The tools we designed enable the general public to give input about the risk in their local area. Once combined with the remote sensing data, our application provides a holistic risk assessment of their geographical location. We also offer our users social media filters to spread awareness about their risk factors and to encourage their friends and family as well. We considered the rainwater and sewage crisis in Karachi, Pakistan as a case-study for our project.
